About Us
Fontana’s iconic logo has, for a long time, signalled excellence, adventure, openness and optimism. We're a label where legends have been born; a label where big ideas are welcome; and a label who believe in the romance of recorded music. That, with time, artists can find an independent, distinct voice. That this voice can soundtrack and bring magic to our lives. That these artists and their songs can give to other aspiring musicians the confidence and inspiration to live their dreams.
Our story has three main chapters. In the late 1950s, the label was born and signed acts including The Troggs, The Pretty Things, The Walker Brothers and The Spencer Davis Group. Hits included Keep on Running, Wild Thing, The Game of Love and Je T’aime Moi Non Plus. And, legends such as Elton John and Jimmy Page first cut their teeth with us. Importantly, Fontana worked with some of jazz’s greatest ever musicians including Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Eric Dolphy and Blossom Dearie. In the mid-late 80s, acts such as Tears for Fears, James, House of Love reinforced this sense of thinking differently and defiantly - an art-first, globally pioneering label with another string of commercial hits.
Most recently in the fall of 2025, our third chapter began. The Fontana label was relaunched within Universal Music Group adopting Decca's legendary pop catalogue and active roster including Aurora, Jacob Collier, Jordan Rakei, Victor Ray, Melody Gardot and Jeff Goldblum. Our mission - to identify, nurture and amplify the most exciting new global talent aligned with Jazz, Soul, Folk, Alternative and Blues. Fontana is Universal UK’s home for Verve, Verve Forecast, Blue Note, Impulse, MCA Nashville and ECM’s extraordinary rosters and catalogues.
Fontana is unique. We think of ourselves proudly as the most interesting label on earth. Please explore and enjoy the adventure!
