The year after his death Blue Note compiled the 10” LP\u003cem\u003e Fats Navarro Memorial Album\u003c\/em\u003e as a tribute to the late trumpeter with selections from various dates Fats had featured on between 1947-49 with the \u003cstrong\u003eTadd Dameron Sextet\u003c\/strong\u003e, the \u003cstrong\u003eBud Powell Quintet\u003c\/strong\u003e, and the \u003cstrong\u003eMcGhee-Navarro Boptet\u003c\/strong\u003e which Fats co-led with trumpeter \u003cstrong\u003eHoward McGhee\u003c\/strong\u003e. In 1957, the label expanded the release into two 12” LPs titled \u003cem\u003eThe Fabulous Fats Navarro\u003c\/em\u003e as part of the 1500 series including additional tracks from the sessions as well as alternate takes of several pieces in order to showcase the sheer creativity and originality of Navarro’s improvisations.
