As a sound seeker, \u003cstrong\u003eLloyd’s\u003c\/strong\u003e restless creativity has perhaps found no greater manifestation than on his latest masterwork \u003cem\u003eTrio of Trios\u003c\/em\u003e, an expansive project that encompasses three albums, each a deft change of musical context that presents him in a different trio setting.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe first album in the series \u003cem\u003eTrios: Chapel\u003c\/em\u003e features guitarist \u003cstrong\u003eBill Frisell\u003c\/strong\u003e and bassist \u003cstrong\u003eThomas Morgan.\u003c\/strong\u003e The \u003cem\u003eChapel Trio\u003c\/em\u003e was named after the group’s inaugural performance in December 2018 at Coates Chapel in San Antonio. \u003cstrong\u003eFrisell\u003c\/strong\u003e had already cemented his relationship with \u003cstrong\u003eLloyd\u003c\/strong\u003e as a charter member of \u003cstrong\u003eThe Marvels\u003c\/strong\u003e when he was invited by \u003cstrong\u003eLloyd\u003c\/strong\u003e to join him in a special concert at Coates Chapel on the Southwest School of Arts campus in San Antonio. Lloyd was already familiar with the acoustic properties of the chapel and knew it would not support drums or percussion. He was also aware that \u003cstrong\u003eFrisell\u003c\/strong\u003e had recorded in a duo context with \u003cstrong\u003eMorgan,\u003c\/strong\u003e with whom he had developed a close musical rapport, and suggested they might all come together as a trio.
